Don't let a good thought pass. Dabble. You never know when it may become a habit - Ashish

Ah....that time of the year when we make bold new resolutions. Many fail to keep them; some strong-willed people almost complete it, and a hand full of folks not only complete it but kill the resolution.

However, I tend to see these resolutions fall under many familiar categories of health-related (dieting, exercising, running a race, etc.); knowledge-related (reading books); or destination-related (travel to XYZ locale) goals. But there are vast categories of goals that we do not explore and can actually be fun goals that one is more likely to achieve and drive towards.

Here are some previous goals I set for myself I am happy to report, I achieved each one of them.

  1. Learn a new skill (cooking)

  2. Meet 100 new folks in a year (counts only if you have had at least two separate meetings/conversations)

  3. Write (blog). It does not need to be public. It is about capturing your thoughts on the topic you care.

  4. Do something I normally will not (eat seafood; camp; speak in native language of that country even if it is slow and tiring)

My point is, our new year's goal can be fun and exciting that allows you to develop a new skill/hobby along the way. It can be one step of walking in a direction you normally will not. It can be out of your comfort zone for once.

So as you set your new year's resolution, be creative.
