Firm but fair is a just way to lead - Ashish
What is your leadership style? Do you struggle to answer that questions in finite ways? Does choosing a few words to describe your leadership style make you feel there is so much more to your leadership style that you are leaving out? Does talking about yourself make you feel that you may be coming across as egoistic? Do you use certain words for your leadership model because they sound good and the listener wants to hear them?
I believe every leader struggles with the challenges above. I also believe there is no formula for answering this question.
So do what has worked well for me. When someone asks your leadership style, answer...'It depends!'
Leadership style depends on the situation, environment, challenge facing a leader. No one leadership style/model works under all circumstances and all situations. There are days when a leader needs to lead from the top and days when they need to step down and let the team lead. There are moments when collaboration makes sense and days when decisions are made unilaterally.
Great leaders are like the rivers. No challenge ahead of them stops them from getting to their destination, and they carve their path effortlessly thanks to their malleable leadership style that embraces the environment and molds to meet the challenge. They do not struggle as they do not box themselves by knowing one style. They adapt, change, and constantly mold to the situation.
